"It's amazing what you can do on a pear and a salad."
So, we're walking along the back perimeter track together. One of us is holding a bucket, the other is holding a rope attached to a large, friendly camel. The rain is barely a drizzle, more like a mist in the air, and when the sun pokes out between clouds and lights up the droplets, the world is beautiful.

"You know, there's an old Japanese legend that says that whenver there's a sunshower, it means a fox is getting married."
"...you really believe that?"
"You're not meant to! It's a legend. A myth. Like, a superstition. You just imagine it, and it makes the world a little bit more... magical."
"Yeah, well. Did you know that every time a... a... leaf. Falls. It means a... whale. Is... dancing."
"And isn't that just a beautiful mental picture?"
"... ...yeah."
"See?"
"I bet you believe it, still."
"What, that somewhere out there right now a little fox groom with his little fox wife are standing there, listening to the ceremony being conducted by a little fox priest..?"
"No, no, no.."
"What?"
"The priest isn't a fox. A fox wouldn't be a priest!"
"What!?"
"No, seriously. The priest is... something... the priest is an owl. An owl would be marrying the foxes."
"... ...so typical."

My mother always said that sun-through-rain was the devil kissing his wife.

I kinda like the fox wedding better.

I've also heard that it means a witch is getting married, I think that's an American one too.

Yeah, the fox is my favourite. It's actually meant to symbolise the moment the groom carries his little vixen into their... uh, honeymoon den? I think.

Morons.

Fox weddings are obviously conducted by wombats.

And the ring bearer is a monkey carrying this pillow:

I still maintain that a fox has a right to be a priest if he so chooses!

I... want that ring pillow. I could teach Ranger to carry it. And get married... all over again. c.c

A fox would so too be a priest. A fox would dress up as a priest and conduct bogus ceremonies, and has been so doing since, oh, the 12th century or something. Long enough that the french word for fox is now Reynard, in honour of said famous fictional fox. But he's not the only one! Consider This marginal fox, for example.

!!! I so should have taken the opportunity to educate him in the ways of Reynard the Fox. I love my old edition with its lovely woodblock print illustrations. <3 That little illustration is great, too! Hah. Look at him in his little hood.

But I'm sure foxes could break free from the stereotype, too, and become legitimite clergyfoxes if they really wanted to!
